Are we really such an unhappy bunch around here?

The latest statistics from the Government’s wellbeing survey would suggest that we are.

Turns out that Northants isn’t as happy as the average for the UK and, worse, our side of the county isn’t as happy as the rest of the county.

They’re happier than us in Northampton according to the figures.

Can this really be true? Wellbeing research indicates that doing something to help other people adds greatly to our happiness and you only have to look on this website to see people from our patch going above and beyond to help others. From Jay Calcott, who had his chest waxed to raise money for Cransley Hospice, to all the unsung heroes who were honoured in the Kettering Sports Awards.

There’s plenty of good work and good news.

And on the subject of good news, the decision to give the go-ahead to the building of a new £16m campus for Tresham College of Further and Higher Education on the site of its base in Wellingborough should certainly please people in the town and the surrounding area.

Making the most of positive developments such as this is vital and, who knows, it could lead to even more news that will cheer us up.
