New members are needed to join the ranks of the Northamptonshire Home Guard Living History Group.
Formed in 2005, the group’s aim is to honour and keep alive the memory of those who formed the many different Home Guard battalions throughout the county to defend us locally during the Second World War.
They do this by attending several 1940s and commemorative events throughout the country, manning displays, talking to the public, and demonstrating drilling, parades and bayonet practice.
Due to the increased demand of the group at events, the group is looking for new recruits to meet these demands and to ensure the group has a future as long serving members retire.
Anyone aged 17 and older can join, who has an interest in history and authentic representation and ideally has their own transport to attend events.
The group meets monthly in the winter months to plan for summer events.
No previous experience is necessary as training is given in the first year probation period.
The group also has a women’s Home Guard division so any ladies are welcome to join as well.
Details of the group can be found on northamptonshirehomeguard.org.uk or by visiting the group’s pages on Facebook or Twitter.
Anyone interested in joining the group can get in touch by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 07771 884120.
