Canine hero Hairy Maclary will be coming to the Masque Theatre in Barton Seagrave for a family theatre show during the October half term.
Accompanied by his friends Hercules Morse, Bottomley Potts, Schnitzel Von Krumm and arch rival Scarface Claw, the show – suitable for children aged between two and eight – will take to the stage full of music, singing and stories.
The Hairy Maclary & Friends show will stop in Barton Seagrave as part of a UK-wide tour to support the popular children’s books by New Zealand author Lynley Dodd.
Since the first adventure, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy in 1983, he has become a children’s favourite, appearing as the protagonist in 12 books in the series, with a further nine tales about his friends.
The best-selling rhyming picture books featuring Hairy and his rag-tag band of companions have made Dodd a household name all over the world.
Dodd’s work has been critically acclaimed and in 1999 she received the prestigious Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal and Lecture Award – A New Zealand literary prize that recognizes those who have mage a significant contribution to children’s literature.
The show is a regular at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in 2011 embarked on a sold out UK tour. Later that year the cast and show enjoyed a five-week residency at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, which was extended due to popular demand.
The show promises to be the perfect half-term treat for Hairy Maclary fans of all ages.
