A team of young footballers has extra sparkle thanks to a generous donation.

Corby Diamonds Youth Football Club has been presented with £250 by the town’s Tesco store.

The store, off Oakley Road, made the donation to the team to help support them following a brilliant season. Community Champion Dawn Hinton and personnel manager Clare Onens welcomed the under-11’s team to the store and presented them with their donation.

Corby Diamonds Youth Football Club runs a host of junior football teams ranging from under-seven’s to under-16’s. The under-11’s team has only been beaten once in three years and is widely regarded as the best side in Northamptonshire in their age group.

Dawn said: “We were delighted to welcome Corby Diamonds Youth FC to our store and are thrilled that we have been able to support them with a donation. Grass roots sports is incredibly important and as a store we are always looking for ways to support our local community.”

Manager of the Under 11’s team and Corby Town defender, Paul Malone, said: “We are delighted to receive the £250 donation from Tesco and we are very grateful for their support. I know the under-11’s team has gone from strength to strength and it is with support like this we can continue to grow.”

Dawn added: “We really enjoy meeting members from our local community and it’s great to hear about the success of local sports teams. We wish all the teams at Corby Diamonds Youth FC all the best.”
