Young entertainers in Corby will be showcasing their talents at Our Big Gig at The Core theatre on Friday, July 12.

The event, produced by Superact and Corby Young Promoters, is part of a national celebration of local music taking place from July 11 until July 14.

It will showcase new and existing talent and offer a range of workshops including DJ, VJ, vocals and dance, as well as open mic and jam sessions.

The free live show begins at 7pm, with a line up featuring a range of young local bands, including The New Sound Band, Corby Rock School, Oakley Rangers, and headliners Heroes & Cons who were well-received by audiences at Weldonfest and The Zombie Hut recently.

People can sign up for the open mic, jam sessions and workshops on the night, and these begin at 5pm.

Our Big Gig is a new UK-wide community music celebration for 2013, taking place thanks to funding from the Department of Communities and Local Government and Arts Council England.

It is being co-ordinated by arts organisation Superact and the project is building on the success of a previous event called The Bandstand Marathon which marked the closing of the London 2012 Games with over 9,000 people taking part in the simultaneous playing of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida across the UK.

The Corby event is organised by Young Promoters, aged 16-30, who meet weekly at The Core theatre, Corby, working closely with staff from all departments to produce events for other young people and the local community.

James Kendall of Corby Young Promoters said: “It’s great that we are producing another event to support young local bands and musicians from Corby. People can expect a warm welcome from the team, enjoy good music in a relaxed atmosphere and be able to take part in some amazing workshops.”

Jenny Collins, East Midlands regional manager for Superact, said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have so many Our Big Gig events happening in the East Midlands as part of these national celebrations.”
