Once upon a time writer Gertie Morrison had a dream of publishing a book of fairytales for children.
Now, aged 83, she has realised her ambition and she’s hoping the book will become a favourite with youngsters.
Gertie, of Campbell Road, Corby, is a member of the Ink Shed writers group, in the town, and has already published an autobiography and a collection of Christmas stories for children.
She said: “I always wanted to do a collection of fairytales and now I have. I have been writing for years and I’m now on the second instalment of my life story.
“The first volume covered my life from 1929 until 1948. Sometimes an idea will come into my head in the middle of the night and I have to get up and start writing.
“I do it all on the computer now and I edit it as I go along.”
Gertie has published 500 copies of her book, which costs £9.99, with the help of Eggbox Graphics, Corby.
The stories feature talking flowers and animals and the illustrations are by Callie May Stout, who lives in the town.
Gertie has already held a book signing session at Corby Indoor Market and is planning to hold another on Saturday, from 10am until 1pm.
