Woodland near Pipewell is in the running to prove it is among the best in the country.
Rawhaw Wood is a nominee in the Small Woodlands category of the awards, which are being run by the Royal Forestry Society (RFS).
The wood won an East of England prize in 2011, and has accepted a challenge to take on other regional competition winners.
Simon Lloyd of the RFS said: “Over the past five years the RFS Excellence in Forestry awards have discovered some excellent examples of woodlands, woodland management and of education in schools.
We are delighted that the East of England regional winners have taken up this challenge as we look to find the very best in England. We wish them all well.”
Judges will be visiting the woodlands during May. Results are expected to be announced during June with a special VIP awards event at the RFS headquarters in Oxfordshire in July.
