A man fought off would-be thieves in a supermarket car park in Rushden after they attempted to distract him by claiming he had dropped money.

Police were called to the incident in the Lidl car park in Brindley Close at about 10.30pm last night (Sunday).

Two women told a male victim that he had dropped money and went to give it to him.

At this point, one of them tried to steal the man’s wallet but failed and they ran off.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed any suspicious activity at the time.
