A woman who asked a man for directions to a hotel was sexually assaulted by him in a town street.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the sexual assault in Marefair, Northampton.

The incident took place on Sunday, August 4, between 6.20am and 6.30am.

A woman asked a man for directions to the Ibis hotel. The man walked with the woman and made unwanted sexual advances towards her and tried to kiss her.

The victim tried to phone her friend for help but the man broke her mobile phone. She then tried to stop a white van passing by to ask for help but due to a language barrier they did not understand what she was saying.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or been approached by the victim. The victim is described as a blonde woman in her early forties.

The offender is described as a white man, aged 19, of slim build, with short clean cut hair. He was wearing a light coloured T-shirt, jeans and a small pea sized blue earring in his left ear.
