A 24-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after the bike she was passenger on was hit by a car.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) was called out to the crash in Wellingborough just before 2pm yesterday (Sunday).

A spokesman for the air ambulance said: “The crew landed on the road where the collision took place as the road had already been closed by the police.

“The patient had sustained an open lower leg fracture and possible pelvic injury.

“She was immobilised, given much-needed pain relief and flown to University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire for further assessment.”

DLRAA works alongside Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) attending major trauma scenes as well as supporting each other by staggering their shifts during the summer months. Between them they carry out about 1,800 rescues a year.
