A teacher is smiling after getting an unexpected cash windfall that will let her go on her dream holiday.

Sara Croot, from Wellingborough, won £10,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery, when her postcode NN8 5ZN was revealed as a winner in the Saturday Street Prize.

Sara, 49, was joined by her dog Penny when she collected her cheque from People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador Judie McCourt.

Sara said: “I can hardly believe it. It’s brilliant.”

Sara has been playing the People’s Postcode Lottery since May last year.

She said: “I saw the advert and thought I’d give it a go.

“I’ve found it very easy and I almost forgot I was playing until I got the knock on the door the other day.”

Sara already has big plans for her winnings. “I’ve always wanted to go to New Zealand,” she said.

“I’m 50 next year and my dream was to go for my 50th birthday – it looks like that will be a reality now.”

It’s not just Sara who has benefitted. To date, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised £33.2 million for good causes across Great Britain.

Another reason that Sara decided to play People’s Postcode Lottery was to help support charities.

One local charity supported by players is Groundwork Northamptonshire.

The charity has set up two educational areas at a new site in Northampton and runs activities focused on natural play and woodland skills.

Groundwork Northamptonshire also supports the Green Patch community allotment project in Elizabeth Road, Kettering, which helps people with special needs and disabilities.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “It was great to be in Wellingborough to present the lovely Sara with her cheque – I loved meeting Penny too.

“Sara has always wanted to go to New Zealand and it’s really great that now she’ll be able to go.

“The best thing about giving away cheques is finding out what the winners will spend it on.”

Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have various chances to win prizes including £1,000 every Monday to Friday, every winning ticket scoops, the prize money for the Saturday Street Prize, which Sara won, is £10,000 and every Sunday every ticket in 6,000 postcodes wins £5.

In addition each month one winning postcode gets £100,000, one player wins a new BMW and there is the chance to win a dream holiday worth £5,000.
