WELLINGBOROUGH Council’s planning committee has voted in favour of supporting the proposed Rushden Lakes development.
At a meeting on Wednesday night, councillors said the majority of the people in Wellingborough were behind the planned £50m development for Skew Bridge.
They said it would not be competition to Wellingborough town centre as the choice of retailers would be different.
The 1,500 jobs it will bring to the area was also cited as a plus for Wellingborough.
But committee members asked that public transport between Wellingborough and Skew Bridge should be improved, that footpaths and cycle access be improved along the Nene Valley and that consideration be given to training and apprenticeships.
East Northamptonshire Council will consider the application for the £50 million retail park on the Skew Bridge site next month.
