Homeowners in Corby are being advised to obtain correct planning permission and building regulations approval before allowing cold callers to carry out work on their properties.
Some residents living in BISF houses, or tin top properties, have recently been approached by firms offering to do insulation and cladding work.
Corby Council is warning homeowners that planning permission and building regulations approval may be required for this type of work.
If permission is not granted they may find that they will have to rectify the work done or pay for the correct retrospective permissions.
Leader of Corby Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “Residents need to be aware of the planning permission and building regulation approvals they may need when getting work undertaken on their property.
“An offer from a cold caller that seems reasonable in the beginning may end up costing them more than they bargained for if they don’t have the correct information.
“We are asking residents to contact the council if they need any advice on these issues.”
If anyone is considering having work done to their property and are not sure if they have the correct permissions they are asked to contact the council’s planning department on 01536 464158, or building regulations department on 01536 464171 for advice .
