A war veteran and Royal British Legion stalwart has been nominated for a Pride in Northamptonshire award for devoting his life to helping others.
Tanky Turner, who is chairman of the Kettering branch of the Legion, was in the Army and the Kettering Territorial Army Unit.
He is also the publicity officer for the Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association (SSAFA).
The war veteran has been nominated for a Pride in Northamptonshire award by Ronald Clarke, of Kettering, who described Mr Turner as an active member of the Royal British Legion branch, who is involved in organising Remembrance parades and poppy selling.
Mr Clarke said: “He has devoted his life to helping others and I’m not alone in thinking that his work should be recognised. He arranged fundraising events and devoted time to servicemen and women needing help with housing and disability problems. This has been over the last 40 years – how he found time for his plumbing business can only be imagined.
“In all his charity work he has been supported by his wife Iris, who has always helped in his many activities.”
