Organisers have been busy dealing with entries which have already come in for a charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
The annual Crazy Hats walk is back for its 12th year at Wicksteed Park in Kettering and volunteers hope the fundraiser on Sunday, March 23, will be their best one yet.
Since details about the walk appeared in the Telegraph the charity, based in Wellingborough, has had lots of interest from people wanting to get involved.
Crazy Hats founder Glennis Hooper said: “So far, the entries have been really encouraging and the response has been up at this time last year.
“We have also had a lot of inquiries via Facebook and many emails and phone calls asking for details so the signs are good for a big turnout.
“I just hope the weather is better this year.”
Last year’s walk was due to be held in March but had to be postponed due to snow – and then the rearranged date in May was hit by heavy rain.
But Miss Hooper, who was succesfully treated for breast cancer, is hoping this year’s walk will be the Glorious 12th with better weather and record numbers of participants.
The highest number of walkers to date is 2,700, but Miss Hooper has set her sights on smashing the 3,000 target this year.
With an average of more than £50,000 being raised by each sponsored walk, it helps the charity support and enhance breast cancer care at both Kettering and Northampton general hospitals.
If you would like to take part in the five-mile walk, which is five laps of the park, call the charity’s office on 01933 442999 for an entry form.
The walk is open to people of all ages, with families and firms invited to get together teams and be in with the chance of winning one of the many awards on offer.
Miss Hooper said: “Please help us to make this year’s walk the biggest and best ever – we look forward to receiving your entries.”
Entry fees are £7 for over-16s and £5 for under-16s, which includes a T-shirt, medal, goody bag and certificate.
The closing date for entries is Monday, March 17.
However, late entries will be accepted on the day in the park’s Celebration Suite.
