PEOPLE can sign up to take part in a town’s flagship event the Waendel Walk.
This year’s Waendal weekend in Wellingborough will run from Friday, May 11, to Sunday, May 13.
The weekend of walking, cycling, swimming and entertainment is now in its 33rd year and usually attracts more than 6,500 people from around the world.
It will begin with an opening ceremony and parade at 6pm on Friday, May 11, and two friendship walks of 5km and 10km.
On Saturday, May 12, and Sunday, May 13, walks will take place ranging from 5km to a marathon-distance 42km. There will also be free entertainment running all weekend at The Castle theatre.
Cllr Peter Morrall, chairman of Wellingborough Council’s community committee, said: “We have stunning scenery in this area and the Waendel routes are a fantastic way to get out into this beautiful countryside, get some exercise, and meet new friends.
“The event also has a brilliant, positive effect on our local economy, with hotels, guest houses and shops all getting a big boost in trade.
“This is the second year people have been able to pre-register online and we’re really pleased with the response we got when we tried it out last year.
“It’s cheaper to sign up in advance and saves long queues on the day, so we’d like to encourage anyone interested in taking part to get their registration in as soon as they can.”
