More than 40 bags of rubbish have been collected from three areas in Corby by teams of committed volunteers who were in action in grot spots around the town at the weekend.

The Oakley Rangers, the Friends of Kingswood and Friends of West Glebe Park joined Corby Council in the national community clear up day.

A total of 22 bags of litter were picked in West Glebe Park, along with one errant bicycle wheel.

Two more bags of rubbish were collected from Oakley Vale and 19 bags, five bicycle wheels, scrap metal and an office chair were collected from Kingswood.

Volunteers were informed about the clear up day in advance of the event through social media.

A Corby Council spokesman said: “The day was a great success and Corby Council’s environmental services, neighbourhood management and culture and leisure teams would like to thank all of the volunteers for their hard work and time.”

Another event arranged by the council was due to take place around the Danesholme Community Centre yesterday (Wednesday).
