Three bus users from Ringstead have started a petition after being told the route they use regularly is being axed.

From March 30 the half-hourly X46/47 service will end in Raunds, which means the bus will no longer run through Ringstead, Denford and Thrapston.

We will have to take three buses to get to Nene Park Medical Centre

Chris Wooding, Pat Elston and Diana Wignell said the route is used by people going shopping, to the doctors, dentists and opticians and to get to work and school, and losing it will make life very difficult for the local community.

In a letter to Stagecoach they said: “The area is developing fast with the building of residential premises in nearby areas, with this service being cancelled this will result in more cars on the road. If the area is promoted with various business and retail businesses coming to the area, it will make it a problem for the local communitity to shop and work in the area.”

Chris Wooding added: “If we have to rely on the 16 it will take three buses to get to Nene Park Medical Centre in Irthlingborough and people won’t get there before midday.”

Stagecoach said the service was started as an experiment and without any subsidy.

It added: “Although the level of patronage has grown it has never come close to generating the amount of revenue required for the service to become permanent.

“We understand that this decision to curtail X46/X47 at Raunds will inconvenience some passengers, but the number involved are very low and Centrebus’s service 16 provides an alternative link between the two towns.”
