Wicky Bear has joined hundreds of youngsters in a day of fun at Wicksteed Park in Kettering today (Wednesday, August 7).

Nearly 700 teddies and their owners also joined an attempt to break the world record for the longest teddy bear chain.

Other activities including water slides and craft stalls were organised in the name of Playday, an initiative which highlights children’s right to play and the importance of play in their lives. It is co-ordinated by Play England and is celebrated with events across the UK on the first Wednesday in August each year.

Marie Phillips, marketing co-ordinator at the park, said it was the first time they had hosted events to coincide with Playday.

“It’s a very good turnout and we have had lovely weather,” she said.

“We are hoping to do it every year, making it bigger and better.

“It’s encouraging people to come and play, use their imagination and let them play however they want to play.”
