A family fun day in Corby this weekend has been postponed after forecasters issued a warning over storms on Saturday and Sunday.

Organisers of the Oakley Vale Family Fun Day, scheduled to take place tomorrow (Saturday, July 19), say they have accepted health and safety advice to postpone the event because of the heavy thunderstorms forecast, with the Met Office issuing an amber warning of heavy rain.

Organiser Paul Balmer said: “We are advised that excess water on the site would mean many scheduled attractions could not safely operate.

“We are planning to re-schedule during September.

“The sincere apologies of the organising committee to all inconvenienced by this difficult decision.”

The postponement comes as the Met Office issues an amber warning of rain – meaning people should be prepared – for Northamptonshire for Saturday.

The Met Office says the location of the heavy and thundery showers is uncertain but where they do form some torrential downpours are possible with frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds.

There is also the risk of significant localised flooding.

A yellow warning, meaning people should be aware, has been issued for north Northamptonshire for Sunday.
