VIDEO: Travellers in Kettering park told to leave ‘by Monday’

The boss of the Countywide Traveller Unit (CTU) says a group of Travellers who have set up a camp in a park in Kettering have been told to move out by Monday morning (June 16).

CTU manager Steve Wilkinson said the camp, which was set up on Thursday in Meadow Road Park next to Northfield Avenue, has been visited by police and local authority representatives.

Mr Wilkinson, who has also been to visit the camp himself, said the group was not causing any disturbances or other problems and so there was insufficient reason for the police to remove them immediately.

He added: “My decision is they are going to be left there until Sunday or first thing on Monday morning.

“If they are still there then we will start formal court proceedings.

“The Travellers, to my eyes, are minding their own business.”
