VIDEO: Northamptonshire voters give UKIP Euro election win

The UK Independence Party have secured a comfortable victory in the European Parliament elections in north Northamptonshire.

The party won a total of 29,439 votes in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northants, well clear of the Conservatives, who picked up 23,017 votes.

Labour was third with 17,871, while the Green Party (3,831 votes) pushed the Liberal Democrats (3,038) into fifth.

In Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northants UKIP came first and the Tories finished second.

In Corby, Labour secured 529 votes more than UKIP, with the Conservatives in third.

There will be one MEP from Northamptonshire in the East Midlands delegation of five - UKIP’s Margot Parker, from Weldon.

In total, UKIP won two East Midlands MEPs, the Conservatives also won two and Labour won one.

Kettering Borough Council was also the lead authority for the whole East Midlands region, and the official regional results were announced by regional returning officer and Kettering Council returning officer David Cook.
