Northamptonshire’s most dangerous roads have been highlighted in a survey which reveals that single carriageways are more dangerous than motorways.
The Road Safety Foundation highlighted a number of more risky roads in our county.
While no roads in the north of the county are considered “high risk”, the A6 falls into a category called “medium to high” risk while several others, the A427, A6003, A5199 and A510 are considered medium risk.
The Road Safety Foundation said it examined accident statistics and traffic flows to arrive at its conclusions.
Safety work has been carried out on the A6 in recent months after a number of fatal accidents took place earlier this year.
Supt Andy Cox, of Northamptonshire Police, said people should also take care on the roads as winter approaches.
He added: “If you are driving in snow and icy conditions, slow down and leave extra braking distance between yourself and the vehicle in front.
“If conditions are poor please consider if you really need to make your journey.”
