People across the country are heading to the polls for the European election today (Thursday).
Nine parties are standing in the East Midlands region, of which Northamptonshire is a part.
The parties standing are An Independence from Europe, the BNP, the Conservatives, the English Democrats, the Green Party, the Harmony Party, Labour, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP.
There are a total of 41 candidates in the region, which will elect five of the United Kingdom’s 73 MEPs.
The votes will be counted on Sunday once all other EU countries have finished voting. The regional results will be officially announced by Kettering Council chief executive David Cook, the regional returning officer.
The council is the lead authority for the East Midlands region.
Council staff have spent the last couple of days preparing in the Kettering Conference Centre for the vote to ensure the count and the announcment of the results runs smoothly.
