VIDEO: Kettering Corrie-mad teenager’s Lego recreations see him invited to TV set

A Coronation Street-mad teenager from Kettering was invited to the set of his favourite show after a member of the camera crew found out about his hobby of recreating scenes from the soap in Lego.

Jack Lewin, 14, began making models recreating the Coronation Street set three years ago, and then began making his own stop-motion videos which he uploaded to YouTube.

His most recent project was also his most ambitious – a ten-minute recreation of an episode in May which saw Tracy Barlow started a fire which saw two of the soap’s characters killed off.

Jack, a Year 10 student at Brooke Weston, said the fire video involved building a whole new set and it took him a month from start to finish.

He added: “I have always really been into Coronation Street and I used to play with Lego quite a lot. I found it interesting creating little scenes and I gradually created all of the sets.

“I have been working on it over the past three years. I did the street, the terraces and have recently added the new buildings and I like the attention to detail that the process requires.“

A member of the Coronation Street camera crew saw some of Jack’s recreations online and invited him along to the set where he met some of the cast including Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow.

Jack said: “I was really excited. I could not really believe it because one moment I was in the real world and the next I was in the studio.

“I showed some of the actors my videos and they really liked them.”

Jack said his next project is likely to be recreating a scene from the forthcoming live episode of Coronation Street, which is being broadcast on Wednesday, September 23.

He added: “People have suggested that I could recreate some of the old classic episodes and maybe do them in black and white. I have a lot of different figures so I pick out the best ones to match the show’s characters.”

Jack said in the future he would like to transfer some of his model-making skills into a career in set making.

He said: “I am studying design and art for my GCSEs and hopefully that will send me in the right direction.”
