A hypnotherapist from Higham Ferrers helped an X Factor contestant tackle her nerves and remember the words ahead of Saturday’s live show.
Christian Baker, hypnotherapist at the Ashgrove Clinic in Higham Ferrers, spent time working with contestant Tamera Foster before her performance last weekend.
The singer has struggled on several occasions to remember the words and after being recommended to the X Factor producers, Mr Baker received a call inviting him to the contestants’ house in London to meet Tamera and film them working together.
He said: “I was delighted to receive the call and more than happy to help out.
“Having never met or spoken to Tamera, I wasn’t sure how it would go, but she was a great girl, a real pleasure to work with.”
He added: “For me it wasn’t about the lyrics, Tamera is a talented girl who is clearly very passionate about music.
“Unfortunately she was starting to suffer with performance anxiety which was causing her to have a block about remembering her lyrics.
“This isn’t uncommon, many people from all walks of life suffer with performance anxiety, it was just Tamera was doing it in front of the TV cameras and millions of viewers, and it wasn’t being helped by the pressure of everyone talking about it and reminding her all the time.”
Tamera found the session beneficial and enjoyed it so much she asked to work with Mr Baker again leading up to the show on Saturday.
Mr Baker worked with Tamera four times, including during rehearsals at the TV studios in London and just before Tamera went on stage to perform on Saturday night.
The X Factor hopeful went on to give two great performances and remembered all her lyrics, receiving good feedback from the judges.
However, the 16-year-old singer was voted out of the ITV show after losing the sing-off to Luke Friend.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Baker said: “Unfortunately Tamera was voted off, but went out on a high and full of confidence.
“She is very talented and I’m sure she’ll have a fantastic future ahead.”
Since leaving the talent show, Tamera has spoken highly about her experience of working with Mr Baker.
Speaking on Daybreak on Monday, she said: “It did give me a bit of a mind block, as it did happen twice, but I saw a hypnotherapist, I saw him about four times and he really really helped me out.
“He just helped me to get into a positive mindset and be calm before I go on.”
