A police cordon has been lifted at the former Northampton railway station site after a forensic investigation of ‘remains’ found they belonged to an animal rather than a human.

Police found the bones at the site yesterday afternoon and an investigation was launched to identify whether they were human and if they were new or historical.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said this afternoon (Tuesday) tests had revealed the bones were not human.

The spokesman said: “BTP launched an investigation following the discovery of remains on a building site close to Northampton railway station on Monday, April 20.

“Following a forensic examination officers can confirm the remains are not human remains. The police cordon has been lifted.”
