Many people may have complained about ‘sweating like pigs’ during the recent heatwave and staff on a Desborough farm have took extra measures to help keep the animals on the farm cool, including the pigs.
However, the irony is that pigs do not in fact sweat. That’s why staff on West Lodge Rural Centre have taken the extra steps to help keep the animals healthy and cool.
Farm manager Ryan Thompson said staff have constantly been watering parts of the mud in the pig pens to help create mud baths for the pigs to cool down in, and they have also put the goats inside so they are undercover. They have also took a number of other measures.
Animals on the farm battling the heat include pigs, goats, sheep, ponies, ducks, and guinea pigs.
Watch the video above to see footage of the animals in the farm and to hear from Mr Thompson about the steps staff have taken.
Mr Thompson said that the farm is open every day during the school holidays and has urged parents to bring along their children for a ‘great day out.’
As well as a family paddock, there is a cuddle corner, a play barn, a restaurant, and nature walks on site.
