Table tennis tables in a Kettering park were vandalised hours after being installed.

The tables at Rockingham Road Pleasure Park, have since been relocated to the bowls club area. They had been donated by Sport England after a request from Northamptonshire Sport.

A Kettering council spokesman said Kettering received two permanent tables at Rockingham Road Pleasure Park, two at Wicksteed Park and five temporary ones in the town centre.

The spokesman added: “Sadly, the permanent tables in Rockingham Road attracted some anti-social behaviour and will be moved within the bowls area to be managed by the site attendants.

“The agreement for the tables was that they should be accessible to all, all the time, but in order to make sure they do not suffer any more damage they have been moved to another area of the park to be managed.”

Ward councillor Michael Brown added: “Even though anti-social behaviour at the Pleasure Park is falling, we unfortunately still have a small minority of idiots that feel the need to ruin our award winning facilities.

“I would like all residents of the local area to be extra vigilant and report all incidents to the police, so they can continue to reduce this kind of behaviour in the area.”
