Vandals have ripped out saplings planted as part of a community project to spruce up the area.
Members of the Friends of Croyland Gardens and the Lost Zoo in Wellingborough planted more than 140 new trees earlier this year to brighten up Croyland Gardens and Swanspool Brook after people said it had become overgrown and inaccessible.
But vandals have tried to ruin their efforts by ripping up saplings and trampling over them.
A spokesman for the friends group said: “At the weekend the site was vandalised and a number of our saplings were pulled up and destroyed.
“The saplings were pulled up and trampled so we were unable to replant them.
“We understand that the people carrying out this vandalism are in the minority, however their act has a big effect on groups like ours.
“We are calling out to the community to come together and support us on this project.”
The damage was discovered at about 4pm on July 6.
