Fire Brigades Union members in the county are staging a strike today as part of an ongoing dispute.

Firefighters have walked out as part of the long-running row over pensions.

Their strike started at 9am and will last for 24 hours. It is the longest strike yet in the three-year dispute.

There have been 12 strikes so far and this one is timed to coincide with the start of the World Cup.

FBU members say that the Government plans to raise their retirement age from 55 to 60 and increase their pension contributions are unfair.

They believe that many firefighters of that age could fail the fitness tests and would have to leave the fire service.
