Tributes are paid to former headteacher and councillor

Tributes have been paid to a former Desborough town councillor, who has died at the age of 97.

Elizabeth Quartly, who was also headteacher at Havelock Infants School, died at the end of January.

Born in Pontypridd, South Wales, she was a Labour Party town councillor.

Miss Quartly’s friend Carol Blissett said she had moved to Germany straight after the Second World War to work for the Army, and later travelled worldwide for leisure.

She added: “She was very proud of her Welsh heritage and also served the town of Desborough and devoted her life to it.”
