Plans are in the pipeline for a cafe bar in Corby Cube which has been largely unused since the civic hub opened in 2010.
If the scheme wins approval, it would mean eight new full-time jobs and a boost for the town centre’s night-time economy.
A planning application has been lodged with Corby Council by Jump High Entertainments.
A spokesman for the company said: “We are planning a trendy cafe bar and grill house where people can meet up, enjoy socialising with friends and have a bite to eat.
“We are aiming for a place with a great atmosphere, offering casual dining.”
The company is seeking permission to make interior alterations to the bistro area, on the ground floor of the Cube, to create a cafe bar with indoor and outdoor seating.
Its opening hours would be 8.30am until 11pm, Sunday to Thursday, and 8.30am until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Since the Cube opened the bistro area has been used for several one-off events and for meetings when the building’s leaking roof meant that the council chamber could not be used.
In April 2011 The Angelic Company was given a six-month rent-free period to open a cafe in the Cube but it failed to deliver the goods.
