A group of Travellers have left a plot of land in Kettering on which a housing development is about to be built.

The Travellers set up camp at the Westhill development, just off Northampton Road, at the end of last week.

They have spent time at various points in the town – including the park in Northampton Road and the Kettering Conference Centre car park – over the course of more than a week.

This morning (Tuesday, September 30), the group were evicted from the site where more than 200 new homes are set to be built.

They have since moved to Cherry Hall Road, near the Holiday Inn off the A6003 just north of Kettering.

Earlier, in relation to the Westhill site, a spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council had said: “The Countywide Traveller Unit has been in contact with the landowners and advised them on how they could proceed.

“The landowners have confirmed that they will be talking to bailiffs so that the Travellers can move on as soon as possible.”
