Canines can become top dogs at training classes in Arthingworth.

New Beginnings Dog Training Club meets in the village hall on Wednesday and Thursday evenings every week.

There are hour-long classes for puppies and for adult dogs.

During classes dogs are taught obedience from the very basics, such as how to walk on a lead properly, to sit on command and to interact with other dogs calmly.

The classes also include fun games and basic agility exercises such as running through tunnels and jumps.

Trainer Clorissa Paul said: “So many people who bring their dogs are pleased to find the dog quickly picks up the basic skills they need for socialising, such as not jumping up at people and staying when told to do so.

“Owners can go as far as they want with the obedience and can take the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen awards – many of the New Beginnings dogs have achieved the bronze award.”

Clorissa recently hosted a dog show at Billing Aquadrome in Northampton over the August Bank Holiday weekend, which raised £450 for the Pet Blood Bank charity.

She has raised more than £2,000 for the charity to date.
