Recycling centre users say traffic chaos is still a problem following changes in opening hours at the site.

Earlier this month the Northants Telegraph reported that people were unhappy with recent changes at Rushden Household Waste Recycling Centre, resulting in revised opening times and days.

Since the story was published, more people have contacted us to say the traffic problems are persisting and they are calling for action to tackle it.

Dorothy Tyler contacted us and said: “We have got the same amount of people trying to get in in a shorter amount of time. It is just not working.”

The changes came into force after Northamptonshire County Council reviewed how its 10 household waste recycling centres are run due to financial pressures.

A council spokesman said: “We have seen a large number of people visiting Rushden recycling centre over the past week due to the Easter break and the recent fine weather.

“We have been closing the gates for short periods during the day to manage traffic flow into the site and our recycling centre staff are working closely with the police to minimise the impact on traffic in Northampton Road.

“We would ask customers to be patient and to refer to the council’s website for full details about recycling centres in their area.”
