Changes to traffic flow on the A6003 will be introduced on Sunday, July 21, in the next phase of the £34m A43 Corby link road scheme.

A roundabout, just south of Barford Bridge, is being constructed on the A6003, which will mark the starting point of the four-mile-long dual carriageway.

Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage, county council cabinet member for strategic infrastructure, economic growth and public protection, said: “Nobody can have failed to see the progress of the new road, especially the new roundabout at Barford Bridge taking shape.

“This next phase of the traffic management on the A6003 will allow the completion of the roundabout and I would urge all road users to be patient throughout the duration of the works, but to be especially careful when the new contra-flow arrangements are put in place as there is bound to be some congestion.

“This is a vital piece of work on a very busy road, and we need everyone to continue to play their part in keeping both drivers and the workers safe.”

This next phase of the works will establish the contra-flow on the southbound lane of the A6003.

People travelling north from Kettering to Corby, will be diverted off the northbound carriageway at the southern crossover (close to the ‘hamburger’ junction) and into contra-flow on the southbound carriageway. They will then use part of the new roundabout and then be taken back on to the northbound lane of the A6003 at the Rushton Turn.

Access to and from Rushton will still be restricted to left in and left out, with no right turns across the Rushton turn junction. Access to and from Storefield Cottages will again be left in and left out. The bus stop on the A6003 will remain in operation.

Those travelling southbound from Corby towards Kettering, will be restricted to the inside lane north of Barford Bridge then around the new roundabout and back on to the southbound carriageway which will still be in contra-flow.

Access to and from Newton Road (Geddington Road) will be via the second exit on the new roundabout. The section of Newton Road between the A6003 and the Camgrain access will be used as work access for construction traffic.

Access to and from Grange Road, will again be left in and left out, with no right turns across the Grange Road junction. All traffic management on the A6003 will remain in place during the August Bank Holiday.

Access to and from Newton Road and Storefield Cottages will again be left in left out.
