Public exhibition on plans to turn former Wellingborough factory into retirement flats

McCarthy and Stone wants to develop the former industrial site with 45 retirement apartments.

The remainder of the site would be redeveloped with about 30 open market apartments, which would be delivered by another private developer.

McCarthy and Stone’s plans are still at a preliminary stage and no planning application has been submitted.

But a public exhibition is being held from 3pm until 7pm on Wednesday, March 16, at Wellingborough Afro Caribbean Centre in Rock Street, Wellingborough, to hear people’s views on the proposals.

Mark Wright, regional managing director at McCarthy and Stone, said: “We want to hear from the local community and our future home-owners before we finalise our plans.

“We will be displaying our preliminary plans and ideas at a public exhibition where our project team will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback on what we have done so far.

“The comments we receive will help us tailor and refine our proposals.”

He added: “Our proposal provides an important opportunity to deliver a sensitive residential development that will significantly improve the housing choices for older people in Wellingborough, while providing employment for local people.”

The local over-65s population is predicted to rise by 95 per cent over the next 20 years.
