The Edmund Street branch was earmarked for closure in December 2015, with the idea of relocating it to Premier News Food & Wine in nearby Mill Road.

The move has now been agreed and will see the new branch open seven days a week and an extra 64 and a half hours of service per week.

The date of the move will be confirmed at a future date.

Service will be provided throughout the shop’s opening hours which are Monday to Friday 6am to 10.30pm, Saturday 7am to 10.30pm, and Sunday 8am to 10.30pm.

A consulation period found that some had expressed concerns over parking at the new branch.

A statement from the Post Office said: “Parking is a problem faced generally in many locations nationwide and is outside the direct control of Post Office Limited.

“However, we have reviewed the situation and we can confirm that there is roadside parking in the nearby area.

“Given the close proximity of the new branch to the current location, we are satisfied that parking will continue to meet customer needs.”
