KFC, the well-known international chain which specialises in fried chicken, is hoping to open a restaurant on the same site as Asda, which won planning permission for a new store at Warth Park just off the A45 at Raunds in March this year.

The application is for approval of reserved matters including appearance, layout, scale and landscaping for a fast-food unit, although it is part of a wider outline planning permission which has already been granted for development of a business park.

Access for the KFC branch would be via Scalley Way and there would be a one-way system for drive-through customers.

The application is proposing 49 off-road parking spaces, including two disabled user spaces and six cycle parking spaces in the car park near the front of the restaurant, as well as an outdoor seating area.

Both the fast-food restaurant and the Asda store fall within phase two of the business park development.

If the KFC plans are approved, it is thought that the two businesses will create about 60 jobs for the area.

Planning officers have recommended that the plans are approved subject to the receipt of satisfactory amended plans to show the inclusion of further window openings on the southern elevation of the building, changes to the external materials and a tracking plan to demonstrate that the entrance is suitable for HGV access.

Members of East Northants Council’s planning management committee will discuss the KFC plans submitted by Roxhill Warth Ltd and Robert How at a meeting starting at 7pm on Wednesday, May 11, at the council’s offices in Cedar Drive, Thrapston.
