New clubhouse at Geddington Cricket Club officially opens

The £100,000 building at the club’s Queen Street home was officially opened on Sunday (May 8) with Northamptonshire County Council leader Cllr Jim Harker, who lives in the village, in attendance.

The club has seen a rapid growth over the years – and chairman Steve Toseland says the venture will add another revenue stream.

He said: “Over the past five years we have gone from having two Saturday teams and a junior team to having four senior sides and six junior teams.

“The new clubhouse is going to help the sustainability of the club.

“Before we relied on local clubs and the like to help us financially but this will add a revenue stream.

“On Fridays we have 80 kids from the village here and it’s not just about the cricket, it’s about the community.

“We had a great day at the opening and there was a fantastic turnout.”

The clubhouse was funded through a combination of donations, grants and a loan from the English Cricket Board.

Mr Toseland added: “We had some money from funds and trusts and an interest-free loan, but we had a lot of donations which we are thankful for.

“Jim Harker’s father helped out with the original sports building in the village and he’s carrying on his legacy, you could say.

“We must say a massive thank you to him.”
