Mum's marathon run

Heather Crowson, 32, with husband Richard, have been fundraising for GOSH in memory of son Cayden, along with brothers Oliver and Benjamin.

Cayden died aged 10 weeks after suffering a heart attack due to a congenital heart defect.

Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) Cayden had a condition which meant only half of his heart worked.

Surgeons at GOSH operated on Cayden when he was four-days-old when he had open heart surgery.

His parents were able to bring him home, but at 10 weeks old his heart failed and on February 17 2011 he died.

The family’s fundraising efforts for GOSH have so far raised more than £27,800 and in April mum Heather will be pounding the streets of the capital when she takes part in the London Marathon.

Heather started her running career in 2013 when in the June of that year she turned 30.

Spurred on by her jogging she also started a fitness class last year at Phoenix Martial Arts and Fitness in Rushden.

Now two dress sizes slimmer, she has taken part in 5k and 10k runs and completed her first half marathon in Cardiff, last October.

As part of gruelling schedule she will be taking on several 5k runs, one 10k, two half-marathons in a week and the marathon in the spring.

Heather said: “I hope to raise as much money as I can for GOSH and to get our total up to £30,000.

“We have a brighter future fund in which anybody can raise money in Cayden’s memory for GOSH by setting up their own fundraising via Cayden’s main page.”

She added: “People can also donate by guessing my marathon finishing time.”
