The Woolcomber pub in St Johns Road will re-open on Thursday, February 25, following a significant investment by pub operators Punch.

The refurbishment will include a total transformation of the interior to create an inviting, friendly place to enjoy a drink, snack or pub meal.

Everything will be updated, with new flooring, fixtures and fittings together with soft furnishings.

The two bars will be opened into one large space with clearly defined areas, including games area, lounge dining and a central entertainment zone.

Externally, the pub will have improved lighting and signage to attract passers-by, together with new garden furniture, landscaping and planters.

Speaking about the re-launch, publicans Donna and Stuart Rebhan said: “We’ve lived close to the pub for most of our lives and could always see its potential; we were delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Punch on this major investment that will completely transform the Woolcomber.”

Craig Taylor, Punch’s openings manager, said: “Our main priority was to restore the Woolcomber to its rightful place at the heart of the community, with a clear focus on delivering a great pub experience for local people.

“We’re confident that our customers will be delighted with the refurbishment; it’s still a true local pub, with a strong food and drink offer together with a regular programme of events to bring the community together.”

When it re-opens, The Woolcomber will offer a range of food with a comprehensive menu of traditional pub favourites, together with snacks and a wide range of drinks.

The pub will celebrate its re-launch with a live performance from the local band Eyes Wide Open on Friday, February 26, from 9pm.

Craig added: “It’s great to work with Donna and Stuart on this investment.

“The fact that they’re local and know the area and the community well has been invaluable in shaping our plans for the pub.

“We’re looking forward to continuing to support the team as they build on the launch and develop their plans for the future.”
