A couple from Thrapston will celebrate 60 years of marriage, putting the secret of their success down to always being there for each other.

Terry and Pat James were married at St Augustine’s Church in Leicester on March 29, 1956, and moved to Thrapston to run a newsagents. The couple established T James & Son in High Street, a business now owned by their son Mark.

Keen bowls players for much of their married lives, the pair still spend much of their time at bowls events, though Pat is no longer able to play. As well as three children the couple have four grandchildren Ryan, 36, Jodie, 35, Stacey, 34, and Cory, 25, as well as two great-grandchildren Calum, two, and Evan, who is eight months old.

Speaking about her parents’ devotion and how their marriage has survived, daughter Denise, 58, said: “They love each other dearly and are always there for each other. Mum and dad always talk through any problems they may have.”
