A thug has been jailed for seven years after he stabbed his ex-partner in the throat and chased her naked into a village street.
Mark Winsbury, aged 49, from Sywell, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court today for the attack on September 1, last year.
The court heard how Winsbury, who appeared via a video link from HMP Woodhill, carried out the attack on a former partner.
Winsbury went to her house in Sywell at around 8.30pm when she was about to have a shower and had a towel wrapped around her.
He barged into the house and went straight for the kitchen threatening: “I’m going to kill you”.
Winsbury grabbed a knife, then pushed her against a wall and held the blade to her chin, before stabbing her in the throat.
As she ran outside in the towel, Winsbury pushed her against her car, rendering her naked, before she managed to get into the vehicle and drive away.
The court heard she drove off and managed to get help.
A victim impact statement from Winsbury’s former partner, which was read out in court, revealed her ongoing torment following the attack.
Matthew Lowe, prosecutor, who read the statement out on her behalf, said: “Even though I know Mark is in prison I live in fear, I genuinely believe Mark will kill me eventually.
“I sleep in two-hour periods at a time. I am constantly checking doors and windows. My life is a complete mess.”
Winsbury denied a charge of wounding with intent but was convicted following a trial.
Sentencing him, Judge Rupert Mayo said: “You stabbed her, you humiliated her and you threatened to kill her.
“In my view this is a serious section 18, because it was carried out in the victim’s home, it was committed deliberately and it was clearly planned.”
He also slapped Winsbury with a restraining order, banning him from contacting his former partner.
