Corby councillors have approved grants of £500 each to organisations helping to promote the arts in the town.
Members of the borough council’s grants sub committee agreed the funding for Corby choir Big About Singing, Lakelands Hospice and artist James Steventon.
Big About Singing, formed in 2008, now has 40 members and gives regular performances for community groups and senior citizens and at charity events and fun days.
It is moving to a larger rehearsal hall and will use the £500 grant towards the cost of a new sound system and music stands.
The grant awarded to Lakelands Hospice will be used to buy materials, including canvasses, easels and brushes, for art therapy sessions.
Mr Steventon has been awarded the grant towards the cost of an arts and sports project aimed at encouraging residents to get involved in physical activities.
The decision to award the grants will now go to the full council for approval.
