Work has started on a new Marks & Spencer store set to open in Wellingborough.
The new Marks & Spencer Simply Food store will open its doors in the Castlefields Retail Park in the spring.
Builders recently moved in to the empty unit to begin renovation work.
The new store will create about 50 new jobs for the area.
Phil Lyons, head of M&S Simply Food stores in the East of England, said: “We are pleased to announce that work has now begun on the construction of a brand new M&S Simply Food store at the Castlefields Retail Park in Wellingborough.
“The 9,200 sq ft store is due to open this spring and will offer the very best of M&S food and drink in a convenient location.”
A 50-seat M&S Café will also be contained within the shop, which will sell ready meals, fresh produce, sandwiches, salads and snacks.
Joanna Chapman, from the Wellingborough Improvement District, said: “I am looking forward to Marks & Spencer coming to Wellingborough.
“I hope the store will attract new customers to Wellingborough. I hope that while they are at Marks & Spencer they will decide to avail themselves with our town centre’s free parking, and visit some of our others shops and businesses within the town.”
Steve Bull, 29, of Jubilee Crescent, Wellingborough, said: “I think it will be a good addition to the town.
“It’s about time that we had some decent shops in the town.”
Wellingborough Council’s planning committee gave the new store the go ahead last September despite some objections in the town.
