The Wanted have been announced as the final headline act who will play at the Alive music event at Delapre Park, in Northampton, this summer.

The boyband will play on Saturday, July 20, at the three-day festival and will join James Morrison, who will play on Sunday, July 21, and Paul Weller, who will play on the Friday night.

The English-Irish boyband formed in 2009 and topped the charts with their single Glad You Came in 2011 and have enjoyed success with their first two albums The Wanted and Battleground, which peaked at fourth and fifth in the UK charts respectively.

Cllr Brandon Eldred, cabinet member for community engagement at Northampton Council, said he was delighted to be welcoming another top act to the festival’s line-up.

He said: “It’s obviously great and another coup, not just for the town of Northampton, but for the county as a whole.

“It shows that we can attract big names such as The Wanted and it should be a great night.”

The band will be supported by the up-and-coming group Lawson whose first two singles“When She Was Mine and Taking Over Me both reached the top 10 of the UK charts last year.

Tickets at £29 (plus booking fee) go on sale at 9am on Friday, February 15, from the Royal & Derngate Theatres box office in Northampton or on 01604 624811.

There will be no transaction fee if bought in person from the box office.

Tickets will also be available from seetickets.com and ticketmaster.co.uk.

Members of The Wanted fan club can book their tickets early on Tuesday, for collection on Friday.
