Plans are well under way for a 10-day event to celebrate everything great about Rushden and show people what is on offer in the town.

Get to Know Rushden will be launched on Thursday, July 4, and will host around 50 events showcasing social clubs, sports clubs, churches, charities and businesses, culminating in Party in the Park.

The event is being organised by Rushden Town Council, which was awarded Lottery funding to host it, and events are being run by a wide variety of organisations.

Cllr Janet Pinnock said: “It’s about people getting to know Rushden, bringing the community together and showing the wide range of activities on offer in the town.

“People don’t always know what’s on offer right on their doorstep but hopefully Get to Know Rushden will show this. It’s also a chance for people who are new to the town to really get to know Rushden.”

The event begins on July 4, Independence Day in America, and shop owners in the town will hold their own “Independent’s Day” celebration along the High Street.

Rushden Historical Transport Society will also be taking part, hosting an open weekend from July 6 at Rushden Station, with talks on the station’s history.
