A teenager is hoping the community will support him as he starts a new youth club.

Sam Perkins, 18, has launched a new drop-in youth centre at the Windmill Club in Glassbrook Road, Rushden.

He is hoping the club will cater for the needs of young people in Rushden, while also providing a Christian message. The centre, which is open from 7.30pm to 9pm every Monday and Wednesday, has about 50 members and runs activities including weekly drop-ins, quiz nights, band nights and a members’ parents’ group.

The Windmill Club has offered the use of its rooms as a base for the centre, but Sam is hoping to raise about £5,000 to be able to set up in their own building.

They already have offices in the Nene Valley Community Action building in West Street, Rushden, but Sam is looking for donations and funding from individuals and official bodies in the area to help them out.

For now the club is being run entirely by volunteers.
